DAVE HARROLD - bass,
1958, Dublin, Ireland
It was either be a skinhead or a hippy where Dave grew up,
in the backstreets of Dublin, so before long he was tripping
over his hair, in a scene that included the likes of GARY MOORE and PHIL LYNNOT, Dave came to a point in his life
where a huge decision had to be made. You see,
the trouble with
having all
that hair was that
the skinheads liked
pounding
on
what was
covered underneath,
so Dave
decided,
enough
is enough and
started
travelling the
globe!
After the USA and most of Europe he
ended up
in Holland in 1977 where he taught
himself the
guitar (which in true Irish fashion
he learned to play
upside down, being left-handed
and not realising this
was NOT the normal way...).
He moved on to the bass and
before long he became
a much wanted musician playing in
Dutch bands such as
RE-EXPERIENCE, CLEMENS V.D. VEN BAND, BOERENLEENBAND (who went on to become DOE MAAR, the only band to cause BEATLES type hysteria in Holland).
Next to all kinds of rock,
he loves fusion music and as well as
in PHYSICAL GRAFFITI,
he plays in a three piece funk/jazz band called EL DOPA, with super-guitarist MICHEL THYSSEN. He has now added mandolin
to his repertoire so that now in true
JOHN PAUL JONES style he can accompany his P.G. brothers
in a few wonderful ZEPPELIN acoustics numbers. |
